Unlikeable

Sing it Nat—

To the tune of “Unforgettable,” sing along with Nat King Cole, “Un-likeable, that’s what you are, John McCain.”

What if the real problem with John McCain beyond the fact that he is very liberal is that he is not a very likeable guy? If so, then he becomes just another Bob Dole in the history of politics. You remember Bob Dole the acerbic Senator from Kansas, who lacking any candidate was the sacrificial lamb against Bubba. While Dole had a long distinguished career in the Senate, he lacked charisma and general populus appeal.

Even if John McCain were to line up with every conservative policy of the traditional party would he have a chance? I doubt it. The guy is just not a warm fuzzy. And isn’t that what most people want? Look at the last sixteen years, Bubba and GW were guys people wanted over for dinner– at least in the beginning.

What is it with the current crop of citizens? When I hear Bubba and Obama speak, I think “used cars.” When I hear GW speak I think of some of a former wife’s relatives. Not one of them sparks the term “qualified” in my mind.

Obama has been touted as charismatic. Does that equate to seasoned, experienced, or qualified to lead a nation struggling to exist? In my years of experience mixing with successful people, charismatic was not a term I apply to all or even most of them. Serious, quietly confident, straight forward and knowledgeable would be terms that fit all of them. The best business relationships I had were straightforward, no frills agreements. Only one candidate of this year’s crop Mitt Romney fits in the category of successful business man. And right now we need a guy who can cut where reductions are needed and stare down disaster with the “cahones” needed to succeed.

You know how far the “Mittster” went. Plus he lost a lot of ground with me when he rolled over for McCain. If he comes back next cycle, if there is a next cycle, I may give him consideration.

In the interim, I am planning for a rough ride down here in the sticks. Regardless of who gets elected short of the resurrection of George Washington our nation will face its toughest test since Thomas Jefferson Davis headed the confederacy.
