Neutering Social Conservatives

Everywhere this week end I read and heard the term “crazies” applied to social conservatives. The “liberal” media has lumped everything but fiscal conservatism into a fanatic wing of the tea party. I define them as liberal because many of them are not socialist, Chris Matthews excepted. Most are just “politically correct” parrots with no real opinion of their own. They have been washed in the blood of “bubba” and hillary and nothing else is real for them. Pity the fools.

The effort to divide and conquer is nothing new. If most of us are as I believe, “people with a brain,” we will sidestep them and keep on building our coalition. We must be a coalition of “limited government,” not a group of fractionalized believers. The “family values” segment is no less valuable than the “birthers” and the “foreign policy” wanks.

Without unity of cause we are lost. Until we understand that only limited government will save this Republic, we will fail. I am serious. With out failure so too does the Republic fall. The representative democracy hangs on by an every growing thread. We must protect that thread and thicken it. We can grow the thread into a rope and hardened it to a chain. The energy for our growth comes from bringing to the fold those who may have divergent views, but, understand power best lie close to the people.

Fiscal conservatives may believe they can win on just their position. I predict not. Without those of us who see a much large picture, no one segment will triumph. Do not view the recent election results in VA, NJ and MA as omens of success.

They are temporary unless we united under a common banner.
