Many of the so called great men are not my list and in fact I see many flaws in their lives that should keep them from being considered great. No one has the definitive outline for greatness. Like beauty it is in the eye of the beholder. Greatness like beauty has a timeline. What’s great and beautiful today will probably fall short in 50 years. I rarely hear anyone say, you know Harry Truman’s policy of ‘the buck stops here,’ was admirable. When was the last time someone mentioned Greata Garbo in relationship to a beautiful woman.
No, greatness is timely. And so is the passing of greatness or presumed greatness. Over time those well thought of are sometimes re-examined and found wanting. But in the moment, we sometimes get caught up and that is okay, we are human and subject to foibles. That is what makes the human great, we are truly flawed, and most of us understand and admit that.
Sitting here listening to The Scissor Sisters’s ‘I Don’t Feel Like Dancing’. Twisting and turning, acting imbecillic. Yes, I love Euro-Dance music and I know the group is a bit out there but the song is fantastic. I found it when I watched a video on How to Marshall a Jet on You Tube. The RAF airman does some great dancing to raise money for a cancer fund. His mother died from cancer. That to me is something to be mentioned. If you like the video forward it, and maybe donate.
It was a couple of minutes of real enjoyment for me. Having been in the Air Force and watched people marshall jets at an airfield, the video was such a twist from the real thing, that I had to laugh. Sometimes it’s good to laugh at the serious stuff too. When we lose perspective, we have lost our humanness. We need the ability to be wrong and recover.
Considered to be the Father of Modern Conservatism, William F. Buckley passed. I personally found him to be arrogant and pompous. But that is my right, remember I am human. His writings may be of future value to us, only time will tell. Right now the Scissor Sisters get my vote for great. In ten minutes I will change my mind and that’s okay, remember I am human and flawed. lol
With the Reagan coalition dead in the water, the republican party nothing but a bunch of power hungry outdated people, and now Buckley gone, life is changing. No longer can we look outside for others to take the lead. Which is good in my opinion. We need to be responsible for our world. Time to stop giving the responsibility to those who do not respect us.
We are human, we err and we go on. We have erred in our judgment of many. Now time to straighten up, pull up our boots and get to work. We are the people and we are the government. Get busy.
