Do legislators really wonder why we don’t trust them?

They vote for legislation without reading it. They vote for legislation because their party says vote for it. They get elected and re-elected because their party has the power to put/keep them in office, not because they do a good job. What about the previous statements ties to representing the people?

With the House ethics committee conducting a probe into lawmakers’ ties to lobbying firms — including the now-defunct PMA Group — members of the secretive panel declined to vote Thursday on amendments striking hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of earmarks.

Sources close to the ethics committee cautioned against reading too much into the actions by the 10 panel members, all of whom voted “present” on eight amendments offered by Rep. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) to strike earmarks in the 2010 Pentagon spending.

But their move surprised floor watchers on both sides of the aisle, who immediately launched a busy round of speculation over what the panel is up to and which members may be under investigation.
