Our History in Iraq

Iraq War Ending Badly

A series of coordinated attacks across Iraq may signal an escalation of the opposition’s effort to gain control of the country. Or it could be they are trying to diminish the US effort there and tarnish the history of the ouster of Saddam. Media will eventually get around to re-blaming GW for the Iraq War.

History may re-write the story a dozen times. First, the near term could be bad for Bush, great for the opposition democrats. Within 25 years the history of Iraq may change one or twice. But, in a hundred years George W. Bush could be thought of as a hero in Iraq. Go ahead choke on your egg mcmuffin, and scoff at me.

GW may go down in history as the last free world leader involved in exporting democracy. And his efforts leading to a change in government in the Middle East. Unlike our revolution, the migration from dictatorship in the modern world takes a change in the mindset of the people. Just as Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi led India out from the shadow of the British Empire, leaders are born who can spark peaceful change.

The first fallacy in the neo-conservative philosophy lies in the minds of the citizens of tyranny As with a child born into an abusive life, citizens of dictatorships take comfort in what they know. As wrong as that seems, the average person in Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia do not wake up everyday yearning for regime change.

We can see the same experience in the United States. For years people have been unhappy with the political system and reach of the federal government. It took the jr. admin. from IL to wake them up, or at least part of them. Until people living under tyranny want change there will be no long term change. Before people blame the US forces in Iraq for our failure, they must first ask, “do the Iraqi people wish to live in a democracy?”

Democracy places responsibility on the individual. A person must be involved in the governmental process for it to function correctly. We see even in our representational democracy that an apathetic citizenry allows the power hungry to move the country away from individual freedom. Do citizens of the U.S. believe in trading individual freedoms for less responsibility? Do citizens of Iraq believe they will be better off without a dictator leading them?

Soon, the Bush-bashers will be howling at the moon. Election time approaches and with it, the need for the downwind party to ramp up support. This will be the last time they can create even a ripple of hostility for the previous administration. After this election, “GW” will have past onto to the happy hunting ground of scapegoats, the democrats will be on their own in the wilderness. And it might also be forty years before they emerge.

If you are on the populist bandwagon, I suggest you get off. Joining forces with the Marxists will only make things worse, not better for you. Your voice in support of bringing down Wall Street, Rich People, Big Pharma may seem a noble cause, but it’s only singing the Marxist song. What needs to be brought down is the era of “big.”

Today, we must wonder how the people of Iraq will fair during internal strife? Will they emerge victorious with freedom as their prize or will they withdraw allowing dictatorship to return? As the history of Iraq continues to be written, we should refrain from too much second guessing. None of us will be around to see the actual historical results of the Iraq War saga of the country.
