Tragedy Escaped 9-11-01

We Are Attacked

We Are Attacked

I knew he was normally in a high rise in Manhattan.

But was he in the office or in a meeting somewhere. The phone lines were busy, both his cell and the office number. He did not answer his email. I called his mother, she could not reach him and had not heard.

Then a message came up in my email and I knew he was okay. My son who lived and worked in NYC on September 11, 2001 was alive. But, then what was happening, were there more planes, bombs? We had no idea what was coming. Some time during the day, we were able to chat on the phone.

The next day he emailed me, he bought water, duct tape and some food on the way home. Until he could not stay awake he sat waiting in his apartment wondering what would happen. As it turned out, he was one of the lucky ones.

On this day, we remember those who died in the towers. We must salute those who gave their lives trying to save those trapped. No words can express the courage it must take to race into a burning high rise. We are grateful people exist who act first and think of themselves second.

As a country we will never be the same. We have been attacked. We have been wounded. There are those who view our liberty and our freedom as ill gotten. Those who were born on this soil who feel shame for the existence of our Republic. And there are those in power who wish to destroy our country to implant a totalitarian regime of corruption.

If there is shame to be felt today, it’s because we have become so weak as to not discipline those who shame us and wish to destroy this great land.
