Headlines- Angry and Demoralized
One European online paper’s evaluation of yesterday’s election.
One can understand their lack of understanding. They have no grasp of the limited government principles on which our Republic was founded. We can forgive them for believing their world and their experiences mirror ours.
First things first- No two democracies are equal.
Second- We are not a democracy, we are a Republic, governed by representational democracy. The differences in other forms of democracy and ours are extreme. We were never meant to be a 1-1 democracy. One could ask why? Which if they did would indicate their lack of reading skills.
While the Federalist Papers may be viewed as pro or anti limited government, clues as to the true emphasis of the purpose of the federal government in our lives lies within its pages. The federal government was not to be the supreme government. The federal body, as created, stood as an umbrella for state power to settle state differences and provide protection of external force.
Power was meant to be held by the states, because the Founders believed the closer power was to the people the better chance the people had to retain Freedom. After all, freedom was the true purpose of the effort of the Founding Fathers. They sought freedom for the individual.
To attempt an understanding of the Republic, limited government, and individual rights from the viewpoint of a quasi-socialist is laughable? The comparisons of the current European forms of democracy and anything historically Greek should bring about chuckles from the crowd. The rubble from which Europe arose, post WWII, gave haste to a formation of lip-service democracy. More akin to puppets of the Allies, Western Europe attempted to jump from monarchy to independence without really performing an inspection of the concept of limited government.
Today, states inside European countries would enjoy the opportunity to flex their muscles, but “big brother” European Union will have none of it. As a consequence, we see right wing, nationalistic movements encroaching on the socialist structure. Do not confuse right wing European nationalism with the limited government grassroots in the USA. The two have no commonality. If one were privy to the emotions of individuals who awoke one day to see their country overrun by central government freaks, one might understand the fear driving those into the streets with placards was “loss of freedom,” not racism If objective, they might also see beyond their own narrow perspective.
The concept of limiting government is a purely U.S. thing. No other country has citizens who believe they have the rights we in the U.S. hold. By the nature of our Constitution, we do not need to ask the federal government for permission to live and breath. It is our God given right to be free. An unalienable right bestowed upon us by our Creator. Not granted us by a federal government, an EU, or a monarch in absentia.
That one premise separates us from the other forms of democracy. If the Marxists have their way, our Creator will be removed from the Constitution and with it our natural rights. Do not take lightly the assault on our Constitution and our form of government. Nor should one confuse nationalistic phobia with the desire to retain individual rights.
So, with that said, I can also understand why the Europeans may see the limited government movement as racists on nationalism steroids. But, while they may struggle with the concepts of God given, unalienable rights, they should not take lightly the feelings at the grass roots that our federal government needs to be taken to the wood shed for some “learnin.”
