Joplin & Extreme Weather
Sitting on the screen porch this morning, barely able to see the keys because of the darkness from the storm, I can say,
“once again, we are lucky.”
Living in an area prone to tornadoes, every storm that does not hit us, is a blessing. The Joplin, MO tornado once again proves we are but riders on this planet whirling through space. We may be able to harness the sun’s energy, convert sea water, watch stars light years away, and walk on the moon, but, we are not masters of our planet.
Silly Concept
In the wake of devastating tornadoes, “saving the planet” seems like a silly concept. Beyond man’s existence, Earth, will survive. We may impact her a bit, even agitate her a bit, but the climate and conditions seek harmony, balance. Tornadoes exist due to a specific set of conditions. We have refined our forecasting to predict favorable conditions, but, we are not yet able to pinpoint the time and place to avoid major loss of life. If weather masters found a way to dissolve a system before it spawned a deadly tornado would there be no other consequences? Some would have us believe man can do anything. I suggest the planet and its environment has a life and mind of its own.
Today, we should say prayers for those affected by the storm and be grateful we have once again survived another cycle of our planet’s normal behavior.
