Less Govt More Cat Food for Seniors
Sen. Tom Coburn’s plan for cutting $9 trillion makes sense. First, the need to cut massive debt comes from taking the long view on government and debt. Cutting $2 or even $4 trillion won’t solve our long term debt problems. Especially when the cuts are spread over 10-13 years.
First, let me say,
“if they cut funds to seniors, then they should cut central government.”
Second–
“Cutting spending starts with realistic budget analysis.”
Third–
“Central government is way too big and costs way too much.”
With those three statements Senator Coburn’s call for a 25% reduction in central government makes sense. But, he’s a bit short on the per cent. We could cut 75% of central government.
First–
“Cutting central government reduces corruption and waste.”
Second–
“Lost central government jobs, means more state jobs.”
Third–
“Moving the power of government closer to the people gives us a better chance to control our own destiny.”
Yes, I know,
“I’m a nut case.”
But, am I? You need to put some more effort into the smaller central government model and how it benefits each and every citizen. That is except those who leech of the central government model. Which includes not just welfare class, but, the pork barrel folk, and the system built up around it. Decentralizing government may extend the power of corrupt state politicians, but, at least we have a chance to battle it at the state level. We have no chance against the current political machines. Central government can be influenced by money, and corrupted by money through campaign contributions, but, more so by lobbyists. Decentralize and the influence loses footing.
No, decentralization cannot happen over night. You need to give up the concept of a “media superstar” saving the Republic. They can’t. Only we can. First, people must be willing to take on more responsibility for their government. Second, they must see the benefit of the decision making power at the state level where taxation can be more responsive to needs. Sending power back to the states means reducing federal tax burdens and better control of tax dollars allocation.
Good Government Wins
States who manage their finances well, will enjoy even more growth in their businesses. States which are mired in the socialist model will fail, lose business and eventually the productive citizens. From there loser states must decide how they will survive. Decentralization would reintroduce the “survival of the fittest” model. That spirit was alive and well in the USA prior to the arrival of socialism on our doorstep. Which happened long before bubba and the bleach bottle blonde tried to put us on universal health care as means to entrap most citizens into government dependence.
Today, I am amazed at the number of intelligent people who still buy into the populist rhetoric ploy which has been empowering socialists since the invention of their class struggle.
