Romney Love Romney Hate?
Today former MA Governor Mitt Romney announces his candidacy for president. You for or against? It’s a simple question- – Yes or no on Romney? We can either vote him in now or send him back to managing his portfolio. You choose.
That message remains at the top of my list- Choice. We in the USA appear to have given over our decision power to national organizations and flashy individuals. No longer are we involved at the grass roots level. Past are the days of big city newspapers lining up for and against candidates as a reflection of their readers. Yes, local papers had readers, and sometimes, they even listened to their readers. An amazing concept wasn’t it.
Former Governor Former Superstar
Mitt Romney worked on Wall Street made zillions or something like that for his employer.
Mitt Romney resurrected the Winter Olympics in Utah.
Mitt Romney was a successful governor of Massachusetts.
That is until he endorsed state health care.
RomneyCare Downfall
From there the wheels fell of the Romney love boat. (No, I know a boat does not have wheels, but it was cute line.) The public perception of Mitt Romney changed when he refused to admit the state health care plan was a dog. Even though the legislature and current (spread the wealth advocate) governor, Deval Patrick, made changes to the plan which will bankrupt MA.
In defense of Romney, I must agree, states have a right to enact any program they choose as long as it does not violate the original Constitutional powers of states. If the voters of Massachusetts want a state mandated health program that is their right. In my opinion, that was the reason our Founders developed a government model which gave states the primary power. “Power closer to the people thing.” So, why should we denigrate Mr. Romney for doing what his state voted for?
McCain-o-roma
Almost daily I received phone calls from Mitt Romney’s robo campaign. Not because I am a heavy contributor to the gop, nor because my site and articles are well read, but, because I reside in a bell weather/pivotal state (Missouri). In an email to the Romney campaign site, I said I would donate a small amount to the push for presidency if he ran as the republican candidate. Then, in my opinion, the wheels really did fall off the wagon- he endorsed John McCain.
Sen. McCain was the least qualified of the leading candidates. While I am not a fan of “the Huckabee,” he had more management skills and was more conservative than McCain, but, that’s not saying much. Former Gov. Huckabee falls into the current crop of leaders who believe power best be held by the elite class. And, they can fix everything. McCain also falls into that class. One should not listen to their rhetoric. Words do come easy for politicians, but, it’s actions that count.
In the war for the “little people,” Mitt Romney would not be my first choice. As leader of the free world, he would not be my first choice. As Governor of my state, he would be a candidate I could support. Those three statements do not mesh. Here’s why-
Mitt Romney has many attributes which the US and World press could single out to ridicule.
Mitt Romney has shown only flashes of understanding the importance of the power of the states.
Mitt Romney is, however, a leader who knows how to manage business and that’s important at the state level.
Trusting and Believing
Mr. Romney lost all credibility with me when he endorsed John McCain. I suspect the case may be true with many, they just don’t know it. Endorsing McCain after a bitter battle, during which McCain made many false accusations, one should ask,
“how could a self respecting leader endorse McCain?”
In my opinion, no person should be favorable toward or even friendly to a person who defames them.
The point of my belief, Mitt Romney, would not be the “best” choice for president, lies in his willingness to play the political game. A candidate with the personal wealth to fund much of their own campaign should be their own person. If withdrawing from the race makes sense, they should feel no obligation to support an institution which helped defeat them.
Mr. Romney’s faith will again play a role. Evangelicals who support Huckabee will come full force at the former Massachusetts governor. That seems silly to me in the face of our current administration’s religious background. Hating Romney for his religion just doesn’t make sense. At least he is a man of faith. And, he has no ongoing war to put Christianity in the closet on his resume. Think that one through, please.
Clowns and Fools
Let’s put Mr. Romney on the side for a second. Who could possibly be a candidate worth supporting? Leave Rep. Ryan and Gov. Christie aside. Who has the leadership skills to help us reconstruct our Republic? Who has a chance to be elected? Those flashy names which get all the press are not the answer. If you think Mitt Romney would be open to ridicule by the press, what would they do to your two leading candidates. The office of president of our United States should be a serious position, not a side show.
Remember, GW and the press’s never ending assault on him. Having the typewriters (keyboards) of the world aimed at our president makes it hard for them to govern. We should consider the image before we embark down carnival row. Do we want four years of ongoing investigations and insults? Beyond former governor Romney, few, if any, qualified candidates can win.
Is that your goal for the next four years,
“vote for someone who turns our nation from pitiful into a laughing stock?”
Or the other option- throw away your vote on a candidate who cannot win.
For me this stands as a test of “my” resolve-
“will I or won’t I vote for Mitt Romney?”
