Sleeper Cell

When the freebie movies ran out we were left with very little of a movie selection. In searching around I found Direct TV’s Channel 101. The channel is in high definition and plays a lot of music concerts. I saw a segment of Simply Red. The guy has a great voice, but was a one hit wonder. You remember, “holding back the years?”
Somewhere I saw a promo for “Sleeper Cell.” Thank goodness for DVR. If you do not have the ability to record programs through either Tivo or DVR, think seriously about it. The recording changes one’s whole viewing patterns. No longer do we have to be there, to enjoy something. I can set the recorder and we can watch anytime later.
Sleeper Cell made by ShowTime features an undercover agent and his contact working to thwart an Jihadist Islamic cell. As you have probably noticed I have not touched on Islam nor terrorism much. First, I know little or nothing about Islam. Second, my real knowledge of Islamic terrorism in the U.S. is limited to media coverage and we know how good that is. I did however feature an article about Jihadist in Tennessee.
Sleeper Cell provides some escapism but also can be startling in its portrayal of a domestic terror cell. Or at least what I imagine to be a sleeper cell. A group of disenfranchised individuals being led by someone who has been trained in the manipulation of that profile of person. The leader has little or no emotional ties to his people, only allegiance to the cause.
The undercover agent and his controller seem shallow. The jihadist have much more depth and present more believable characters. Is it that I am naïve or that a government agent’s commitment pails in comparison to a suicide fighter?
Do not mistake my observation for approval of a movement bent of killing innocents. Nor do I see terror as defensible. In my opinion, terror is a cowardly pursuit. At best, one can either submit, or fight and die. Today, very little of our world makes sense. We have lost touch with our roots and the traditions which made us strong.
The results of our cultural and moral decline leaves us vulnerable to those who wish to harm us.
Check out Sleep Cell and let me know what you think?
