Economic Personal Solutions

The problem with blogging in a time of crisis, all one writes about is crisis. Everyone knows we are in a crisis. You pick it, economic, financial, business, cultural, political. Before you jump on the phone to me, let me define each for purpose of the discussion.
Economic crisis has to do with the economy, the purchase and sale of goods and services.
Business crisis has to do with the creation of goods and services.
Financial crisis has to do with the banking and financial institutions.
Cultural crisis– if you do not understand the crisis there, then “move along, nothing to see here.”
Political crisis has to do with the politics being utilized to influence and govern our country.
Add to that a governmental crisis, which has to do with the effective or ineffectiveness of our government and the drive to change our system of government to communism.
We all have a financial crisis. Short of converting all one’s assets to gold and silver we are trapped until something positive evolves.
The business crisis will not be helped with the taxes and legislation which I believe is designed to end capitalism.
Cultural crisis can be impacted by local control. That and never leaving home or watching television. Not much of a life for the future is it? If they get the fairness doctrine there won’t be much to watch.
So how do we solve the purchase and sales of goods and services in our lives?
Barter remains a simple answer.
For generations people have traded to survive. Until we establish a solid monetary system over which we have an impact our financial world will be at best tenuous. Barter, gold and silver solves many of the current problems. No, I am not suggesting we return to the gold standard as a nation.
Gold as a means holding wealth makes a lot of sense but not very practical in the day to day. Silver coins can be exchanged easily, but most of the silver has been taken out of circulation.
In the new barter system, we could see one and two person cottage industry providing goods and services to others. No, it’s not robust nor is it inflationary. We make and sell/trade what we need. The basic law of supply and demand operates.
Too basic for you? Why? Because you can’t get a new iPhone every year? Will you have a choice? The key to surviving economic difficulty is preparation. Merely asking the questions starts your brain on the path to survival.
What would I do if there was no food? Water? Money?
How do I protect myself and my family?
This blog is not in reference to an apocalypse. The concept behind the questions is to prepare for problems. In business, one must plan for the year ahead and forecast. Life should be no different. A person with responsibility must look forward.
If one takes a look at alternatives they may find things they missed in life. The future will be and if we individually prepare for outcome(s) that’s all we can do. The political future lies in our hands. We the People must step up and take back our government.
Every day we discuss plans for things we can do to make life easier for us. As we age, life changes, we must think about stairs, cutting and hauling wood, keeping things repaired, updating the water system, alternative energy, food production if the budget gets too tight. That’s planning for a future we know is coming.
Based on the budget and plans of the administration, I propose that just getting by may be difficult. My sons have substantial incomes, yet the quality of their lives will be impacted going forward. They will have to make decisions as to how they spend money going forward. Many will be faced with that.
Maybe an hour this week end to think local and think “prepare.”
